The kids continue to live there life normally in the compound. Although life is normal Eli is still suspicious about his father keeping secrets. After a while Eli is right, his father is keeping things from them. Elis dad gave him a cd with a date from an incredibly recent time. This may seem normal, but they have been in the compound for over six years so theres no way to get the cd besides the internet. Again, this may seem normal, but Rex Yanakaki said there wasnt any internet in the compound yet he was able to access it. This makes Eli wonder what else is being kept from him.

In these chapters the Yanakaki family continues to do well in the compound. The only thing that seems to be going wrong is the fact that the kids dont get along very well. Eli found Eddys old laptop, something that Elis father Rex Yanakaki, the famed computer programmer, has been keeping from him. Since Elis father is keeping some things from hime it makes Eddy wonder what else he doesnt know.

Maze Runner ch. 8-9

During this part of the book a weird alarm starts going off throughout the entire “glade”. Thomas later learns this is what happens when the box, the thing that brings them supplies or anything they need, is bringing in a newbie or green bean. People start to flip out because this is the day after Thomas arrived, but normally newbies or green beans come once a month, not two days in a row. Everyone in “the glade” makes a huge crowd outside of the box. Everyone is silent as the box opens, but when they take the newbie out everyone explodes in conversation. Then green bean is a girl! This is extremely important because a girl has never been in “the glade” before. What makes this even more unusual is the fact that she is suspected to be in a coma. Lots of people also seem to believe that Thomas, who still has an unusual desire to become a runner, has some connection with the mysterious girl.

He also gets a tour from Alby, the boy who thinks he knows Thomas. He shows Thomas the slaughterhouse, the box, the opening to the maze, the deadheads and almost everything he needs to know to survive in “the glade”. For some reason Thomas believes that he has seen all of this before, he feel like hes been to “the glade” before. At the end of Albys tour, Alby emphasizes one thing. NO ONE except for runners are aloud in the maze. If he is found in the maze if hes not a runner he will be killed. The kids began to search the school for the pack rat that they believe has "stolen" the super bowl ring that has gotten Griffin into so much trouble. They have set traps all over school, and about an hour into their mission, they catch what they believe is the guilty rat. Savannah takes a leash she normally uses for her guinea pig and puts it on the rat. She hopes that the rat will take the kids to its nest, where it probably has the super bowl ring. Just as savannah predicted the rat takes them to its nest, but theres only one problem. The nest is in the ceiling. Pitch, the climbing expert, gets up to the ceiling, looks in and sees the football ring! Except when whe goes to get it she doesnt reach, which makes things alot harder. The group then has to hoist Ben up so he can reach because hes the smallest. Ben gets up and grabs the super bowl ring with much difficulty, and had about reached the ground when Darren comes in. Darren begans trying to make deals with the kids, but then Dr. Evil steps into the room!

Melissa, the computer wizz, figures out how, instead of having a machine at Griffins house monitoring where he is, a phone monitors where he is. This way he can carry around the phone, go anywhere, and not be caught because he is within 200 yards of the phone! Meanwhile Logan gets ready for the school play, the same night as the “operation”, therefore he can’t participate in Griffins plan. Griffin and his friends minus Logan search the school for the pack rat that may have taken the super bowl ring, but they have no luck.

Some of the biggest and baddest kids at JFK even come up to his table to congratulate him, but Griffin does not like it. Meanwhile the rest of griffins gang finds Mr. Clancy, the schools janitor, to be innocent. Savanah the animal expert has a theorie though. She believes a pack rat stole the superbowl ring. She believes this because when pack rats steal shiny objects they leave another object in its place, and Griffins retainer was left at the scene of the crime. In these chapters the kids begin to spy on all the suspects they have gathered so far. Taking a metal detector the kids check bags and other places a superbowl ring could be hiding. While Ben is checking Darren's gym bag Darren spots him and Ben gets a bunch of Gatorade, but Darren is "clean". The other kids check their other suspects, but everyone seems to be innocent. The gang is puzzled and begin to think of new suspects. They realize that it could be their janitor, Mr.Clancy, because he has keys to everything and hes a huge Jets fan, who lost to the team of the superbowl ring, and are now rivals. Because the fact that Mr. Clancy is a huge Jets fan that gives him motive to steal the ring, he may be the man the kids are after to prove Griffin innocent.

The kids pedal and push faster than they ever have in their life and get to the jewelers just on time. Right when Dr. Evil opens the box the kids whip out cell phones and cameras and take pictures of whats in the box. Dr. Evil immediatly recognizes Griffin and then Griffin has an anklet put on to ensure he doesnt leave his house while on house arrest again. The sad thing was that the contents of the box were just Dr. Evils grandmas gold necklace that he was selling for extra money.
